With so many young people interested in joining the EMPD and looking for a career in the law enforcement sphere, some frequent questions are: I want to become a metro police officer. Is that possible?

When do the posts come out?

According to Ignatius Maphike, the EMPD media liaison officer, the response is straightforward.

“The EMPD posts are advertised on the city page (www.ekurhuleni.gov.za).

“This is a process undertaken by the Human Resources Department of the City of Ekurhuleni, and as such, we recommend that people between the ages of 18 and 35 continuously visit the city page for all vacant posts,” explained Maphike.

The EMPD Facebook page will also post when such posts are available.

Here are some requirements for one to become a metro police officer:

• Matric certificate;

• Valid driver’s licence;

• Good communication skills;

• The ability to work well under pressure;

• No criminal record;

• Be in good physical and mental health.
