Street mast installation is underway in Daggafontein informal settlement

Two high street masts will soon brighten the streets of the Daggafontein informal community.

In the early stages of the Daggafontein Community Desk (DCD), the group rallied over electricity-related difficulties in the Daggafontein informal settlement.

Throughout the week, DCD saw the benefits of working as a team when the installation of two high street masts in the community got underway.

Ofentse Rakhudu, responsible for public relations and marketing at DCD, expressed satisfaction that their first objective was to go above and beyond to help the informal settlement receive proper lighting.

“It was a difficult and tedious process when we sent a memorandum to the municipality,” said Rakhudu.

“Even though we went as far as involving relevant stakeholders in the province, our efforts have finally paid off.”

DCD highlights that their relationship with Ward 76 Clr Mike du Toit has allowed them to achieve their objectives.

Rakhudu expressed his gratitude to Du Toit for seeing their commitment to strengthening and preserving the community.

“Despite major challenges arising along the way, as DSD, we are happy that all our efforts are coming together.

“Taking up such a huge task proved how far we could push ourselves. Even some local youth have found employment as a result of the current project.

“We haven’t given up since last year May,” Rakhudu concluded.
