The members of the EMPD Tsakani Precinct arrested a 53-year-old man for driving while under the influence of alcohol last Friday at about 17:30.

While performing crime prevention and law enforcement duties on Black Road, the members spotted a blue tractor moving very slowly.

According to the EMPD spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the officers instructed the driver to stop and be inspected.

“After a brief interview with the driver, the inspected vehicle was discovered to be a City of Ekurhuleni council-issued vehicle deployed in the Springs area. An odour of alcohol was evident,” she added.

The driver was taken to the Tsakani Police Station, where a registered nurse drew a blood sample. The man was arrested and detained at the Tsakani Police Station.

“The EMPD has zero tolerance for lawbreakers in the City of Ekurhuleni. The officers are commended for their outstanding work, ensuring that council resources intended for service delivery are not used as instruments in the commission of a crime,” said Thepa.

The Tsakani Police Station confirmed the man was charged but released pending the availability of his blood test results.
