Two brothers robbed of a large sum of cash and cellphone at Springs petrol station

Two siblings were robbed by three men at a local petrol station on February 12.

Two brothers were robbed at a petrol station at the corner of Plantation and South Main Reef roads on February 12.

The siblings were at the petrol station filling up their vehicle with diesel and pumping the tyres when a Toyota sedan with three men pulled up next to them.

Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said the trio approached the siblings, pointed firearms at them and searched each of them.

During the search, the men discovered the driver had a cellphone and R500 000 in cash. An amount of R10 000 was discovered on his brother.

The robbers took the cash and cellphone before speeding off.

A petrol station attendant who witnessed the incident contacted a security firm and the Springs SAPS.

“The police conducted a vehicle inquiry, but the results were negative as the robbers used a false car registration belonging to an orange Kia on their vehicle,” said Tshabalala.

Tshabalala confirmed that a case of armed robbery was investigated by the police.
