Four arrested for stealing car parts

Four suspects linked to a business robbery that took place at a vehicle manufacturing company in New Era on January 11 have been arrested.

It is alleged on the night, three armed men forced entry into the business and tied up the security guard who was on duty.

They took the security guard’s cellphone and R1 900 in cash from the company’s registry.

Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala said later in the day, the company identified that some equipment had also been stolen and police were called back.

“It was reported that eight new car engines, one petrol generator, six rear differentials, and one compressor were also stolen,” said Tshabalala.

While police were investigating the matter, the business was burgled again on January 16.

Tshabalala said that during police interrogation with the security guard, who was on duty during both incidents, they identified loopholes in his statement and interrogated him further.

“He told the police about the suspect’s identity and led them to their whereabouts. During the arrest, the stolen car parts were found at a house belonging to one of the suspects in Daveyton,” he explained.

The stolen items are valued at R120 000. The suspects were detained at the Springs Police Station.
