Parents frustrated by school admission process

Allegations of school children being turned away by schools leaves parents unable to buy uniforms and stationery.

Parents and their children lined up at the offices of the Gauteng Department of Education on Monday.

They were there to query registrations and admissions for the children for the new academic year.

Complaints of local schools allegedly turning away children were the centre of most of the frustration.

Springs resident Sibongile Senoanadi, a grandmother to Kaboentle Thobajane, held up a rejection letter.

“As you can see, my granddaughter was rejected simply because her home language is not Afrikaans. We were told nobody will be available to translate for her. What do they expect us to do?” she asked.

A comment requested from the department was not received at the time of publication.
