SMMEs must seize road construction opportunities

The event was aimed at showcasing available training opportunities for local labour.

Ekurhuleni MMC for Roads and Transport Alco Ngobese has urged local SMMEs to take advantage of the construction and built environment opportunities provided by the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) in Ekurhuleni.

The MMC was speaking at a Sanral tour to the City of Ekurhuleni, which was aimed at exposing local SMMEs to business opportunities and creating awareness of subcontracting and community development projects.

The event, which was held at Kempton Park customer care centre last week, was also aimed at showcasing available training opportunities for the local labour.

“For several years, only the big companies were benefiting from Sanral projects in Ekurhuleni,” said Ngobese.

“Working with Sanral, we believe the status quo can be changed and all the red tape that prevented SMMEs from doing business with Sanral can be removed,” he added.

He encouraged local business people not to sit back and expect business to come to them, but rather to make all efforts to seek opportunities.
