Springs businesses continue to suffer from crime

Police Minister General Bheki Cele released the first quarter crime statistics 2022/23 in Pretoria on August 19.
The stats reveal crimes committed and reported between April and June 2022 in 21 categories.
This time the Springs Police Station featured in six top 30 stations.
The town’s businesses remain a soft target for criminals.
The station recorded 63 cases of burglary at non-residential premises. This is an increase from the 58 recorded in the same time period for 2021.
This landed the Springs Police Station in 23rd position of the top 30 stations for such crimes.
The station also recorded 27 cases of robbery at non-residential premises. This is an increase from 19 in the same time period for 2021.

In the top 30 stations for robbery at residential premises, the station landed in the 14th position.
It recorded 38 cases between April and June of 2022.
Burglary at residential premises increased from 126 in 2021 to 141 in 2022.
Springs Police Station also landed 14th place, in the top 30 stations, for all theft not mentioned elsewhere.
They recorded 297 such cases between April and June 2022.
They also recorded four cases of truck hijacking.
