Parkrun celebrates its 200th event

“It was Springs Parkrun's 200th event and it was a success. This is a milestone for us. Our birthday is on November 19, 2022, and we will be hosting a massive event.”

Springs Parkrun celebrated its 200th Parkrun event at the grounds of Horse and Hound, on June 18, celebrating a milestone of their success.

Marius Jonker said the Springs Parkrun event started at 08:00 on a cool winter’s morning with 141 runners.

“It was Springs Parkrun’s 200th event and it was a success. This is a milestone for us. Our birthday is on November 19 and we will be hosting a massive event,” he said.

He thanked the volunteers from the Striders Running Club and Veritas College for being part of the Parkrun.

“This week’s best male and female times respectively were 00:18:51 (PB) and 00:22:42.

“We were running a double lapper on a new route, entirely using the dirt roads in Presidents Park, close to Horse and Hound, alongside Paul Kruger Highway,” said Jonker.

Springs Parkrun started on November 19, 2016. Since then, 8 633 participants have completed 56 790 Parkruns covering a total distance of 283 950 km, including 11 101 new personal bests (PBs).

A total of 329 individuals have volunteered 3 373 times.
