Market to uplift the people of Springs

Lynsey Russell and Blackie Swarts started the Carpe Diem Market to help Springsites get over the lockdown slump.

Lynsey Russell and Blackie Swarts started the Carpe Diem Market to help Springsites get over the lockdown slump.
“Many people lost their jobs and livelihoods, and we had to come up with a way to empower them while bringing people together, ” said Russell.
The two are members of a few NPOs in Springs. They hosted the youth of Hope, Faith and Grace, who set up a car wash at the market.
“We are also challenging the young women of the Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute to channel their entrepreneurship skills and see what they can sell to make extra cash.
“This is also a platform for people to showcase their passions. Whether it is art or craft, it is so much better to enjoy something homemade. Those things are more special,” explained Swarts.

The market hosted vendors from as far as Pretoria.
“People can also just come to enjoy the atmosphere. We need everyone to come out and see what the market is all about. Bring your blanket and take in the beautiful scenery,” added Russell.
The Carp Diem Market takes place every last Saturday and the first Sunday of every month. It is also family and pet-friendly.
The market is hosted at the Gauteng Women’s Rugby Institute Residents Gardens on Wit Road.
“We will have a special chipping day for cats and dogs on April 30,” said Russell.
Anyone interested in having a stall at the Carpe Dien Market may call Swarts on 076 192 4068 or Russel on 072 363 0211.
