Police seize unlicensed gun

The Springs SAPS crime-prevention department received information about a man committing a robbery in town.

A man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed gun in the CBD on Sunday afternoon.
The Springs SAPS crime-prevention department received information about a man committing a robbery in town.
“The officers followed up on the information to trace the suspect. On arrival at the location, the officers noticed a man fitting the description of the alleged robber,” said Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer of Springs SAPS.

“The officers approached him and requested to search him. The police recovered a gun with the serial number filed off, and ammunition.
“The police requested the suspect to produce a licence for the firearm but he failed dismally,”
The man was arrested immediately for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Springs SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe applauded the members for their swift response.
Investigations will be carried out to determine if the firearm has been used in the commission of any other crimes.
