Unarmed guards wrestle robbers at substation

A gang of robbers ambushed a group of guards at the Eskom substation in Struisbuilt on Thursday.
The guards were approached by about 14 men, three of whom armed with guns.
“The guards ran away, but the thugs caught up with them and brought them back to the substation,” explained Capt Johannes Ramphora, communications officer at Springs SAPS.

The guards were cuffed with their own handcuffs and placed in the guardroom. Two cellphones were taken from them.
The next morning, they were rescued by day shift colleagues and contacted the substation manager.
Copper cables were stolen.
