Local karatekas show who’s boss

Six dojos took part and sensei Michael Cindi's students, from the Selcourt dojo, used all their training and performed well

Karatekas from the Pan African Shotokan Karate Federation Dojo in Selcourt competed in the Pan African Shotokane Federation Championships over the weekend at the Delmas Sport Centre.
Karatekas from all over the country took part in this prestigious competition.
Boys and girls from ages 11 to 17 participated. There was also a separate event for seasoned karatekas of 30 years and older.
Six dojos took part and sensei Michael Cindi’s students, from the Selcourt dojo, performed well.

It was a clean sweep for the dojo in the boys 11 to 12 age group:
• First – Thapelo Mothlaping for Ekurhuleni
• Second – Owami Rolinyathi for Ekurhuleni
• Third – Musa Nkanwanyane for Ekurhuleni
12 to 15 boys:
• First – Wontokoza Mahamba for Hendrina
• Second – Thabile Mahlangu for Hendrina
• Third – Angela Dlamini for Hendrina

14 to 17 girls:
• First – Xolisie Gumede for Delmas
• Second – Thabile Mahlangu for Delmas
• Third – Angela Dlamini for Kwamhlanga
Veterans (30+)
• First – Nananta Manentsa (64) for East London
• Second – Sonde Mahlangu (38) for Ekurhulenie
• Third – Dave Moore (58) for Ekurhuleni
“I am extremely proud of how my students performed. They work so hard here and it has payed off very well,” said Cindi.
