Man dumped in veld after hijacking

The car was later found abandoned with the keys still in the ignition.

A Witbank man was left ruing his decision to pick up a pair of hitchhikers on the N12 highway after he was robbed of his vehicle last Thursday evening.
The victim told police he picked up the man and woman who said they needed a lift to Daveyton.
When they reached the N12 Etwatwa off-ramp, the man grabbed the victim from behind while the woman pulled out a gun and pointed it at him.
They demanded the victim hand over his bank card, card pin and money.

The victim called a family member and asked them to send money to his bank account.
After the call, the hitchhikers tied the victim up and drove off with him in the car, before dumping him in a veld.
After he untied himself, he set off along the road in search of help and saw blue lights in the distance.
He approached and came across two police officers, as well as his car, which had been abandoned.
There were no damages to the car and the keys were still in the ignition.
The police told the victim he was in Zonkizizwe, Katlehong, and his car was towed to the Van Ryn Deep pound in Benoni.
