How long have you been working at Vita Nova?
I started working here in 1991, so it’s been a long road.
What are some of your duties?
I am in charge of running the centre, making sure everything is in order. I’m also in charge of the many fund-raising events we host.

What have some of the challenges been?
It’s mostly financial difficulties. Vita Nova has always had financial difficulties, but luckily, we can always count on the people of Springs to give us a helping hand. But other than that, I really love what I do.
What have you learned over the many years?
Patience, definitely. It takes a lot of patience if you want to work here and make a success of it. My faith in the Lord has also been strengthened and just overall my compassion for people from all walks of life.
Are there any stand-out moments from your time working here thus far?
Yes, one very special girl always comes to mind. We called her Pretty. She was abandoned as a young child and we took her in. She had severe cerebral palsy, but we saw something special in her. We sat down with her and taught her the colours of the rainbow and other basic lessons. She went on to attend Laerskool Christiaan Beyers, and she has matriculated from her school where she was a prefect. She’s a very bright girl and we are extremely proud of what she was able to achieve.
