Women-led police operation a success

The operation yielded good results as three illegal immigrants were arrested, 255 people and 170 vehicles were searched and 15 traffic fines, valued at R5 000 were issued.

The women in blue from the Springs Police Station and Gauteng Traffic Police conducted a law enforcement operation at Paul Kruger highway from 10:00 until 13:00 last Wednesday.

The women from the Springs Police Station and Gauteng Traffic Police conducted a successful operation on the Paul Kruger Highway last Wednesday morning.

The operation was led by Brig Thembeka Gwebushe, station commander of Springs SAPS, and was meant to sensitise the community about gender-based violence (GBV), women and children abuse and to discourage the public from buying looted property.

Speaking during the operation, Gwebushe said the location of the operation is led by intelligence and crime stats they receive daily.

The Gauteng Traffic Police issued 15 fines, valued at R5 000.

In the second phase of the operation, pamphlets were distributed at the Springs Taxi Rank.
Officers spoke to men to educate them about GBV while discouraging them from unscrupulous behaviour.
