Local dancers impress at Dance World Cup qualifiers

The academy will be hosting fund-raisers throughout the year to pay for their dancers' overseas trip.

Young dancers from Rock-a-Tutu Dance Academy in Selcourt competed in the Dance World Cup last weekend and as a team finished in first place.
The team placed first in many styles, including ballet and acro dance.
Nine of the young dancers made it to the finals, which will take place in Telford, England, in August.
The academy’s senior dancers have been dancing together for five years and have grown from strength to strength.
Coaches Kayleigh Ashton, Kelly-Ann de Marco and Lisa Padeiro teach their students a myriad styles, including ballet, contemporary and jazz.

“We are preparing the girls for the finals by doing a show at the Springs Theatre in June, as well as regular rehearsals at the studio and on different stages.
“We will also be entering more competitions soon to get the girls more comfortable on stage,” said Ashton.
The dancers meet four times a week at a studio at the Pollak Park Golf Club for two-hour practice sessions to reach their full potential.
“I am so proud of our dancers. They all worked so hard to achieve their best, and it really showed.
“People see us mostly as a ballet school, but our dancers can do so much more, like contemporary and acro dance,” said Ashton.

Ashton is happy with the response from her dancers’ parents.
“The parents’ response has been phenomenal, they have not stopped raving. They are so proud to be Rock-a-Tutu dance parents.
“We are a dance family and are so grateful for all our dance parents and their commitment to the studio,” she said.

Ashton thanked de Marco, who teaches ballet, and Paderio, who teaches contemporary, acro and aerial acro dance.
