Residents frustrated about the state of George Sutter Park

“They drive up in the park and park their cars right next to where I live and blast their noise the whole weekend long.”

George Sutter Park on Nigel Road has been neglected for some time and the municipality has done very little to clean up the park.
This is according to residents who have bemoaned how for years revellers have strewn broken beer bottles, fast food boxes and other bits of refuse in the park.
Although the grass has been recently cut, residents are still frustrated with the slow process.

Residents are particularly annoyed with the loud partying that goes on over the weekends.
“Those visiting the park drive up next to where I live and then proceed to blast their noise the whole weekend long.
“We can’t sleep and they won’t listen when you ask them to stop,” said a nearby resident, who preferred not to be named.

According to councillor Shadow Shabangu contractors are hired to cut the grass every seven weeks. The grass in the park was cut for the first time this year only last week.

Ward councillor Shadow Shabangu said the metro only has one contractor hired to cut the grass in the parks and that is why the process is taking so long.

“I’m not sure whether the metro doesn’t have the money or what the issue is. “The contractor will start taking care of the grass in other parks but people just have to be patient for now,” he said.
According to Shabangu, contractors are hired to cut the grass every seven weeks.
