Business robbery on Fifth Avenue

The total value of the stolen items is R31 000.

A 35-year-old shop owner was robbed by a bogus customer and his accomplices last Saturday evening on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Seventh Street.
The shop owner told police he was alone in the shop when a man came in and asked to buy a bag of mealie meal.
When the shop owner opened the security gate to hand over the mealie meal, the man pulled out his pistol and ordered him to go further into the shop.

He was then joined by six other men, one of whom was armed with a knife.
The men tied up the shop owner using cable ties before taking money, airtime, an airtime machine, cartons of cigarettes and grocery items before fleeing.
The shop owner was tied up until 9.30pm, when his brother came to the shop and freed him.
The total value of the stolen items is R31 000.
