This week we take a look at the Advertiser’s December 3, 1993, edition.
• Lucky to escape death
Springs resident EM Venter of Nigel Road had a narrow escape on Wednesday morning when her car smashed into the back of a truck at the corner of Nigel and Alan roads.
Emergency workers said she was very lucky to escape death.
The incident occurred at about 10.45am while both vehicles were travelling in the direction of Springs.
Venter was rushed to the Far East Rand Hospital with a neck injury and lacerations.
The driver of the truck was not injured.

• ‘TV gang’ wanted by SAPS
Springs police are looking for four suspects who are allegedly responsible for four break-ins in an area where only television sets have been stolen.
According to police, the four, who have been spotted driving a 1984 metallic Toyota Corolla, are from the Strubenvale area.
They have allegedly broken into three houses recently, with the last case in Casseldale over the weekend.
In each incident only a television was taken.
• Top award for Springs company to boost their export drive
A Springs-based company has won an award as the top Barlow Supplier of the Year for 1993.
The company, Ringrollers of South Africa, in Selection Park, received the award at a ceremony in Boksburg on Monday night.
“Since we are in export drive at the moment, this will enhance our image,” said Dave Goffey, the company’s marketing manager.

Ringrollers of South Africa won this award twice in the past year.
The runner-up was Guestro Wheels in Heidelberg.
Ringrollers of South Africa, a division of Dorbyl Heavy Engineering, is a company that specialises in the forging of seamless, railway tyres and flanges.
They export to various countries in South America, Europe, the Far East and Africa.
They were established in 1976 in Springs and are one of 27 Barlows throughout Southern Africa.
