Arrests made after robbery of SAPS clerk

Duduza police arrested three men after a finance clerk employed at the station was robbed.

The victim was jogging along Sonnestraal Road next to Phumla Mqashi on July 21 at around 7pm when he was approached by three men.

According to Sgt Harry Manaka, of Duduza Police Station, the men grabbed the victim by the arms and held an “intshumentshu” (a self-made knife) to his neck.

They then took his cellphones and wallet, which contained cash.

The victim did not resist and his knowledge from working in the SAPS taught him his life is more valuable than his possessions.

Instead he took a good look at the assailants, what they were wearing and the direction in which they fled.

The next day, members of the SAPS crime prevention and sector policing traced and arrested two suspects.

The officers recovered some of the items taken from the victim and many other items believed to have been stolen from people.

A third suspect, believed to be the leader, was arrested the same afternoon by the Duduza Trio Task Team.
