Golfers happy to be back on the course

Golfers excited to be back on the green despite icy weather.

Kwatsaduza – The Mondays and Thursdays Social Club made up of Kwatsaduza golfers and other golfers from surrounding areas are thrilled to be playing golf again.

After months of staying at home due to the Covid-19 pandemic, chairperson Chris Nkosi says it feels good to be back.

“Our players were eager to play.

“We have already created a schedule for June, and Monday we will be playing at Pollak Park Golf Course.

“At the moment, regulations forbid participation of more than 60 players at a time.

“In that regard, we are awaiting a reply from Golf South Africa to provide clarity,” says Nkosi.

Golfer Wayiti Mchumane from the Monday and Thursday Social Club and the Benoni Country Club says they are taking regulations set by the president extremely seriously.

“People are happy to be playing again, even though there are major adjustments we need to get used to, such as not greeting each the way we used to, no handshakes after the game, not much of socialising taking place and having to play without taking out the flag.

“Nonetheless, we are still able to enjoy ourselves.

“One of the challenges we have now is that it is winter; therefore, the ball is very cold and doesn’t fly like it does in summer and the grass is slippery.

“Getting back into shape is proving to be a challenge after having gained weight from staying at home.

“We have placed sanitisers all around the golf course,” says Mchumane.

He adds that having to wear a mask is coming in handy with the icy weather.
