Police reward citizens

All of these services have eased the suffering of many residents who have suffered deeply due to retrenchment and loss of income.

The Springs police handed out certificates of appreciation to citizens who helped those who were most in need during lockdown on Thursday at the Springs Police Station.

These kind residents, with help from their companies, went out of their way to donate blankets and clothes to the needy, while others started food banks and other feeding schemes.

Some of the companies involved include McDonald’s, Pick n Pay Strubenvale and Riverside Country Estate.

Pick n Pay Strubenvale was involved with various feeding efforts and made donations as well.

Lucas Sango, from Pick n Pay, said he was glad that he was able to offer some help.

Tracy de Jager Havinga, executive wedding and event co-ordinator and owner at Riverside, was involved with a blanket drive and food donations.

McDonald’s were similarly involved in efforts to feed the needy and provided much-needed relief to various communities in Springs.

A company also established a shelter which provided a safe haven for abused women and children.

All of these selfless efforts have eased the suffering of many residents whose lives have been deeply impacted due to retrenchment and loss of income.

Springs SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe says: “We want to maintain a friendly relationship between the police and business people of Springs.

“We are grateful for all their efforts, be it food banks or NPOs who shelter people, especially women and children who suffer abuse at home.”

She also thanked the companies and people for helping them in the reduction of crime during lockdown.

Springs SAPS’s Col Marius Lubbe says: “I think everyone has realised that with this pandemic, everyone is in the same boat.

“And this is just a small way for us to say thank you and path a way forward to help each other during this difficult period.”
