Geduld Methodist Church always ready to help

Over 850 food parcels were distributed over the lockdown period.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12 noon, the mobile kitchen from Geduld Methodist Church can be seen feeding the needy residents of Springs in the park opposite Pinegrove School.

The kitchen provides soup, bread and hot meals for approximately 90 people on a daily basis, giving them enough nourishment for the day.

During Level 5 of the lockdown, the kitchen was not permitted to operate as normal and instead offered food parcels on a drop-and-go basis.

Kelly Coates was also instrumental in the soup kitchen’s success

This method proved to be very effective as 850 food parcels were distributed over the lockdown period.

The church has noted that the number of people needing help increased during this time, but it is slowly reverting to the usual amount.

Soup and hot meals are still served on a take away basis.

Pastor Jonathan Coates thanks all those who contributed to make the soup kitchen a possibility.
