Endicott business robbed of diesel

Two guards were robbed while standing in for a colleague at a property in Endicott.

A business on the corner of Doris and Station roads in Endicott was robbed at approximately 11.55pm on Saturday night.

According to Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora, “It is alleged by the complainant, a Vischkuil resident, that on Saturday at about 3pm his employer came to his residence and asked him and his cousin to assist the security guard on night shift as the guard would be alone.”

At 6pm, the two men went to the diesel depot but when they arrived the security guard who was supposed to be on duty was not there and they proceeded with their duties without him.

“At about 11pm, while they were asleep in a shack on the property, they heard a knock on the door.

“They thought it was their colleague, but while they were still in the shack, they were threatened and told if they didn’t open the door they would be shot,” says Ramphora.

He adds: “Before they could open the door, a window was smashed and a shot was fired, but they don’t know where it was directed to.

“They opened the door and three suspects forced them to the ground and tied them up with shoelaces.”

He says the complainant says that one of the assailants was busy on the phone at this point in the attack.

In his report to the police the complainant claims that after about 10 minutes a truck (and horse) drove inside the yard, hooked two diesel tank trailers filled with diesel and drove out of the yard with the tankers.

The three original attackers took four cellphones and drove out of the yard in a red VW Polo Classic.

The two men were then able to untie the shoelaces to free themselves and went on foot to inform their employer of the robbery.

“Along the way they met up with CPF members who assisted by calling the police,” says Ramphora.

Neither of the victims was injured.
