Taxi sanitisation programme comes to Springs
The aim of the project is to support taxi ranks and transport modes with the sanitising of commuters and vehicles to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Taxis at the Springs Taxi Rank were sanitised on Thursday morning, much to the appreciation of the Springs Taxi Association (STA).
The sanitising of the taxis is part of the programmes launched by the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport on Monday at the Sangweni Taxi Rank in Thembisa by MEC for Transport Jacob Mamabola.
The aim of the project is to support taxi ranks and transport modes with the sanitising of commuters and vehicles to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The department partnered with Outsurance, SA Taxi Finance, Anglo Gold, Clinix Health Group, Amscor and other arms of the government.

The sanitising team from Outsurance started at the taxi rank before heading to the taxis on First Street.
Other sanitising teams went to Payneville and others to Majola Taxi Rank in KwaThema.
Although he was appreciative of the sanitising of the taxis, STA chairperson Leonard Molo says more can be done to protect commuters and drivers.
“We were told that in each taxi, all the passengers and drivers must wear masks and gloves and they must sanitise their hands before getting into the taxi.
“We don’t have any of that and we can’t afford to buy it,” says Molo.
