Local author and life coach is determined to help others find purpose

“I started writing and found that I was good at it, and I knew I could write a book and I set that goal for myself.”

Author and life coach Monaheng Sello Nelson from KwaThema has not led an easy life, but made use of his gift for the written word to achieve greatness and find his purpose.

Nelson was born in Heidelberg and lost both of his parents when he was just 18 years old.

His father died of cancer and his mother died of a heart attack soon after.

With only Grade 11 completed, Nelson was unable to further his education and quickly had to find a job to support himself.

He landed a job as a security guard in 2016, but the tedium of a daily routine quickly began to irk him, which was around the time he took to writing.

“I was just so tired of waking up and going to work, doing the same thing every day.

“So I started writing and found that I was good at it, and I knew I could write a book and I set that goal for myself.

“I know that this gift was given to me by God, so I have to use it.”

Nelson published his first book, You are Created for Greatness, in 2018, and his second book, What Influences Your Life, in February this year.

His books are about self-motivation, finding purpose and meaning in life.

“I think God gives everyone a purpose in life, and I want to help people find that purpose and help them in their journey through my books.

“I help people with motivation. I help some with marriage problems, and I try and give advice to people on how they can find purpose to the best of my ability.”

In addition to writing and life coaching, Nelson is pursuing a PhD in Theology through Hope College and coordinates a local church.

Studying theology has been one of Nelson’s dreams for a long time and he feels that it will open many doors for him in his future as a writer and a coach.

Nelson hopes to one day have his own book workshop where he will help young and aspiring authors publish their work.

Although he still works as a security guard full time, Nelson’s writing, life coaching and studying has given his life the meaning and the purpose he was always yearning for.
