Gate fixed at Presidentia

The gate is now completely functional and every resident has been given a remote to come and go as they please.

Since January, residents of Presidentia old age home have been living in fear due to one of the main gate motors not working.

As a result, this gate was left open during the day and was only locked at night by one of the caretakers.

The motor was old and had been problematic since 2014.

In addition, the caretaker is not allowed to fix anything and can only report problems, which usually lead to nothing being done.

However, to everyone’s joy, on February 16 the metro had installed a brand-new motor for the gate.

The gate is now completely functional and every resident has been given a remote to come and go as they please.

Residents say the gate gives them peace of mind and they feel much safer knowing the gate is closed most parts of the day.

Ward councillor Dean Stone says: “This was a big concern for this complex.

“Leaving the gate open like this was dangerous, but I am glad the metro has addressed the problem.”
