Business robbery at The Avenues

The complainant was on duty in the shop behind the counter and his colleague was cleaning the floor, when a suspect, dressed in black, entered the shop as if he was a customer and wanted to buy some liquor.

A liquor store at The Avenues shopping centre was robbed on Friday afternoon, says Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The complainant was on duty in the shop behind the counter and his colleague was cleaning the floor, when a suspect, dressed in black, entered the shop as if he was a customer and wanted to buy some liquor.

The suspect gave the complainant R100 and when he opened the till, the suspect produced a firearm, went behind the counter and told the complainant to lie down on the floor.

Two other suspects then entered the shop and pushed his colleague to the back of the shop.

The two suspects took the complainant to his colleague and bound them with cable ties, took their cell phones and a bunch of keys from their pockets, before locking them in the kitchen and left the keys on one of the shelves.

The suspects emptied the till of the money that was in there and took an unknown amount of cigarettes.
