Community comes together to help Vita Nova

Many members of the Springs community came together to build the set.

The Rotary Club of Springs Park, along with other members of the Springs community, came together to build and donate a special set of swings for the Vita Nova Centre on Tuesday.

These specialised swing sets are built to accommodate those who are wheelchair bound.

Jos Rokerbrand of the Rotary Club of Springs Park saw pictures of the wheelchair friendly swing sets and immediately thought of the Vita Nova Centre.

Rokerbrand says: “Many of the people at the centre in wheelchairs have never experienced what it’s like to be in a swing, so we wanted to give them that experience.”

The Rotarians feel that every child and young adult should experience swinging at least once in their lifetime.

Many members of the Springs community came together to build the set.

The frame was donated by Tech Pro, most of the steel was provided by Macsteel and the paint was provided by Mica and many others joined hands to make the project a success.

The set was built in La Pace and was then transported to the Vita Nova Centre by the Rotary Club where it was painted by the Rotarians.

The rain threatened to ruin the event, but the Vita Nova patients who took part were excited to take on this new experience.

Rokerbrand wants to thank the members of the community for their help in making the project a success.

The centre is very grateful for the Rotarians and believe that swing sets will be a great addition to their stimulation programme.
