Sewage flows in Payneville

In addition to the sewage problem in Ndamase Street, Bafana Street floods every time it rains.

Residents in Ndamase Street say you can smell the street before you get to it.

This is because of the sewage that flows down the street far too often for their liking.

“This has been going on for years.

“People cannot go outside anymore.

“If you walk down the street or drive down, then park your car at home, the whole yard ends up smelling like sewage,” says Joyce Mosethle.

Mosethle says they have reported the problem to the metro but the municipality cannot seem to find a permanent solution to the problem.

The raw sewage flowing down Ndamase Street is making residents sick to their stomachs.

“The last time they were here, they just used a honeysucker to drain the excess sewage and then left.

“A few days later, it was flowing again,” says Mosethle.

The sewage, which starts to flow in Ndamase Street, eventually ends up in Huddleston Road in Ward 72.

In addition to the sewage problem in Ndamase Street, Bafana Street floods every time it rains.

Mosethle says this is because there is no functioning drain on the street.

“The drain that is there doesn’t work and there is no cover for it.

“We are scared that children are going to fall in,” says Mosethle.

Residents say they have tried to report the flooding and sewage problems, but nobody answers the phones at the metro call centre.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
