Metro denies lack of staff behind backlog on work orders

Gadebe could not say what the current turnaround time for jobs given the number of staff at the Springs energy department and instead said the energy department was committed towards the speedy restoration of power outages.

The metro has denied that lack of staff is the reason behind the electricity complaints around Springs not being attended to.

This comes after The Addie received a tip-off that the department did not have enough technical staff to attend to the various problems that crop up.

The metro says they have 100 employees at the Springs Depot.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe says over the past year, they filled vacancies in the depot.

“Only one technical appointment was for Springs, but the process has not yet been concluded.”

Additionally, he would not give the exact number of backlog jobs that need to be done in Springs, but says there is a number of street light complaints outstanding due to capacity constraints, which the metro was in the process of completing.
