End-of-year prize-giving for TS Springs

Good conduct badges were handed out to cadets who showed commitment to the eight ideals of the Sea Cadets Corps.

TS Springs held their annual prize-giving last Saturday.

Cadets were rewarded for their hard work throughout the year.

Good conduct badges were handed out to cadets who showed commitment to the eight ideals of the Sea Cadets Corps.

These are honesty, loyalty, accountability, obedience, self-respect, discipline, responsibility and morality.

In addition to showing commitment to these ideals, the cadets displayed a willingness to be a part of the cadets through regular and committed attendance of weekly parades and other events.

The cadets awarded this badge were Leading Seaman Akeem Brown, Leading Seaman Muhammed Aqeel Sheik, Able Seaman David Doller, Able Seaman, Julian Hoole, Able Seaman Johnny Taylor, Able Seaman Peter Taylor, Able Seaman Tiaan Mulder, Able Seaman Muhammed Razeen Sheik, Seaman Sibongiseni Mahlangu, Seaman Sibusiso Mahlangu, Seaman Tummi Mogadime and Seaman Tshiamo Mothiba.

The annual elective awards are awarded to cadets who were elected to specialise in a specific field, and have proven themselves to be proficient in that elective and have stood out above other cadets in that field

Leading Seaman Akeem Brown received the Communications Elective Award.

Able Seaman Peter Taylor was awarded the Seamanship Elective Award.

The Engineering Elective Award went to Able Seaman Julian Hoole.

Seaman Tiaan Mulder received the Catering Elective Award.

Seaman Kgaugelo Maisela was awarded the Most Improved Cadet of the Year Award.

The New Entry Award was given to Seaman Keabatswe Maphakela.

Leading Seaman Muhammed Aqeel Sheik was awarded the Yeoman of the Year Award.

Coxwain of the Year Award went to Seaman Peter Taylor.

The Leadership Trophy was awarded to Able Seaman David Doller.

The Officer’s Commanding Trophy went to Seaman Phumuzo Malabisane.

Able Seaman David Doller and Able Seaman Johhny Taylor shared the Cadet of the Year Award.

Gauteng area officer Lt Commander Wayne Partridge was awarded the coveted Stirrer of the Year Award.

Seaman Keabatswe Maphakela was promoted to a higher rank due to the outstanding progress she has made this year. She will now be Able Seaman.

Officer Michael Gary Taylor was also promoted and will now be Sub Lieutenant.

Sub Lieutenant Dorothy White was given a token of gratitude for her years of devoted service to TS Springs.

She had been a part of the organisation since 1979 and retired earlier this year.
