Domestic worker lucky to be alive after house robbery

A domestic worker is lucky to be alive after she was strangled during a house robbery in Bakerton last Thursday morning.

Springs Police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says the domestic worker was home alone when a man knocked on the door and said he was looking for a job.

The victim informed him the owner was not home and the man then left and sat on the pavement outside the house.

While the victim was busy doing laundry, she heard the sound of something breaking from the front door.

Upon investigating the source of the sound, she was confronted by two suspects already inside the house.

One of the suspects then strangled her and asked her where the safe was and the victim told him she didn’t know.

While the suspects were busy strangling her, a neighbour’s domestic worker came to her rescue with three other people.

The suspects then ran out of the house and got into a double cab bakkie, which was driven off by an Indian man.
