Selpark CPF met on Sunday for its AGM at Selpark Primary School where Barend van Heerden encouraged the group to play by the rules.

“We do our work, but you have to report criminal cases to the police.

“If we just put news on social media, but we have no case number, we are not doing much good,” says van Heerden, the CPF chairperson.

CPF Chairperson Barrent van Heerden emphasized the importance of reporting cases to the police at the Selpart AGM on Sunday.

He adds that the SAPS will always ask for reported cases, not ‘rumours’ of incidences.

“Sassa beneficiaries need to be very careful as well.

“There are scammers who ask to see the cards, for one reason or another.

“Then they steal about R100 from each beneficiary.

“Sometimes they scam 100 people, and make so much money.”

He also appealed to the CPF members to be patient with the police.

“There are many factors that contribute to them being late to attend to your calls.

“For example, we had a break-in where we were able to subdue the suspect.

“We called the police, and I calmly let them know what the situation was.

“Because they knew I had the issue under control, they went to another emergency first.

“Then they came to me.”

The grand prize of the raffle was a wheelbarrow filled with all sorts of goodies. I t was won by Michael McDonalds.

Van Heerden says the Springs SAPS is short of about 20 police officers.

“How many cases do you think are registered by Springs SAPS per month?

“About 650.

“Sometimes, one investigator has 300 cases to attend to.”

But he does admit that sometimes officers just slack on the job.

Van Heerden continued to encourage the group to record every incidence, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

“Criminals have a pattern.

“We keep information, even unreported cases, and sometimes we are able to predict when they are coming.”

He encouraged members to always attend meetings.

“Also encourage those who are not here today to come next time.

“There are more people in our books than those who actually show up when we meet.”

On a lighter note, the Selpark CPF ran a raffle to raise funds.

The prize was a wheelbarrow full of goodies.

The first prize draw winner is Michele McDonald.

The group raised R10 000.
