Hard work pays off for Springs MMA fighters

Coach JP Kruger says of the fighters: “I am super proud of them.”

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Fighters from House of Tinkerbell competed in this year’s Victor Grappling Competition and the Gauteng Fighting Championships.

The Victor Grappling Competition took place on October 26 at Hoërskool Florida and the following fighters walked away with medals:

CJ Peenz won silver, Mario Potgieter won gold, Niko van der Merwe took bronze and Justin Walker walked away with a silver medal.

The Gauteng Fighting Championships took place on August 31 at the Alberton Wrestling Club.

Van der Merwe and Walker both took gold, with Peenz taking silver and Potgieter took bronze.

Coach JP Kruger says: “All four boys make me so proud. They are pros right now and this next generation is really going to be something else.

“We have Kruger who is really doing well in his wrestling and Potgieter has shown that he is one of our most dangerous athletes. He’s been getting gold medals regularly now.

“He has really shown that hard work pays off.”

Kruger says that the new generation of fighters make him really excited for the future of the sport.
