The Vischkuil community is facing the prospect of another coal mining application.

This comes after Bultfontein Coal revealed they had applied for prospecting rights on portions of land that include farms in Holfontein and Vischkuil.

The company, alongside Eco Elementum, is having a public participation meeting in Devon on Friday to hear from interested and affected parties.

When asked about the application, Phillip de Jager, who is a member of the Grootvaly Blesbokspruit Conservation Trust, says: “As both applications could have a negative impact upon Blesbokspruit, I will arrange for our Trust to register as an interested and affected party.”

The public participation meeting will be held by Eco Elementum who have done the basic assessment report (BAR) on behalf of Bultfontein Coal.

However, despite their notice saying the BAR would be available on their website between October 21 and November 20, it was not available at the time of going to print.
