Case managers celebrated at Life Springs Parkland Hospital

Naidu says the key to successful case management is communication and she explained that it is not a linear process but one which is fluid and needs constant revision to ensure the best possible health outcome for the patient.

Life Springs Parkland Hospital celebrated case managers on Thursday morning.

Case management is a collaborative process of assessment, planning, facilitation, care co-ordination, evaluation and advocacy for options and services to meet an individual’s and family’s comprehensive health needs. This is done through communication and available resources to promote patient safety, quality of care and cost-effective outcomes.

Guest speaker Brenda Naidu, the Gauteng leader of the Case Manager Association of South Africa (CMASA), explained how the growth and development of the profession in South Africa, over the past 20 years, can only be a good thing.

Naidu says, today, case management can longer be confined to hospitals only as patients need care even after they have left the hospital.

“The process of case management has six steps, which include ethics, advocacy, finance and social support network,” says Naidu.

Naidu says the key to successful case management is communication and she explained that it is not a linear process, but one which is fluid and needs constant revision to ensure the best possible health outcome for the patient.

Hospital manager Cora Muller thanked case managers for the work they do and says it is the collaboration of case managers with medical aid schemes, doctors and patients that ensures patients receive the best care.

“They make all the difference in the hospital as they go the extra mile and advocate for their patients,” says Muller.
