Dance Directions strike gold at the SA Dance School Championships

Fifteen dancers from the studio did a variety of styles, such as Latin, Bollywood, disco, contemporary, jazz and hip-hop.

Dance Directions twirled their way to 19 gold medals at the SA Dance School Championships held at the Ettienne Rousseau Theatre in Sasolburg at the beginning of this month.

Studio owner and teacher Mariska Wolmarans was extremely proud of her dancers and their performances.

Results for the studio were:

• 19 gold medals

• 16 high silver medals

• four silver medals

• two special awards

Amy-Jane Labuschagne won the award for outstanding stage personality for her Latin solo.

Hope Bailey and Jesse Meyer won the award for great dynamics and teamwork in the hip-hop duo category.

Other awards were as follows:

Jesse Meyer: Level 3 dancer, won two gold medals for hip-hop duo and hip-hop group.

Ava Cameron: Level 1 dancer, won one gold medal and one silver medal for hip-hop duo and hip-hop solo.

Zanté Roux: Level 1 dancer, won one silver medal for contemporary solo.

Clinton Viljoen: Advance Level dancer, won one gold medal for salsa/country duo.

Mariska Wolmarans (teacher): Advance Level 2 dancer, won two gold medals and one high gold medal for salsa/country duo, hip-hop Group, salsa and Bollywood duo.

Jacky van Staden: Level 1 dancer, won a silver medal for Latin solo.

Kellan Meyer: Level 3 dancer, won two gold medals for hip-hop duo and hip-hop group.

Kecha-Lee Bronkhorst: Level 1 dancer, won a gold medal for Bollywood solo.

Anebelle Steenkamp: Level 1 dancer, won a high silver medal for jazz duo.

Donné de Beer: Level 1 dancer, won a high silver medal for jazz duo.

Jessica Smit: Level 1 dancer, won a high silver and a silver medal for hip-hop duo and hip-hop solo.

Marché Barnard: Level 1 dancer, won a high silver for hip-hop duo.

Hope Bailey: Level 3 dancer, won five high silver medals for hip-hop duo, hip-hop group, Bollywood solo, jazz duo, disco, contemporary, jazz and hip-hop solo.

Amy-Jane Labuschagne: Level 4 dancer, won four gold medals and three high silver medals for Latin solo, disco, hip-hop solo, hip-hop group, jazz, contemporary and salsa/Bollywood solo.

Luné Ras: Level 1 dancer, won a gold medal, two high silver medals and one silver medal for hip-hop group, Latin solo, jazz duo and contemporary solo.
