Celebrating women at Springs Country Club
"We are trying to attract as many ladies as possible to join the club."
In commemoration of National Women’s Day, the Springs Country Club invited women from the community to a champagne breakfast.
“This is a kick-off with a bang.
“We are trying to attract as many ladies as possible to join the club.
“We invited golfers and non-golfers, young and old, to participate in today’s event.
“The breakfast gives us the opportunity to socialise and get to know each other,” explains Magda Pienaar, the club captain.

Although the club has an existing women’s division, the organisers want to produce more female golfers and competitions.
“We offer lessons, even for people who have never played golf in their lives, we can teach them.
“Our coach, Rayn Flockheart, is willing and able.
“This is a start, we know we have to crawl before we can walk,” says Christelle Goldsworthy, one of the organisers.
Carol Sibiya, one of the guests, says she has always had an interest in playing golf.
“I have hit a few balls, but I never had any formal training.
“I am so glad that today I will get training.
“My intention is to keep playing.”
The organisers are inviting school-going girls as well.
“The sooner they start playing, the better.
“And they will catch on quicker when they are that young,” adds Goldsworthy.
