Food packing at Springs Senior Centre

One package can feed a family of five and is especially welcome during these cold winter nights.

Despite the frigid temperatures, residents at the Springs Senior Centre woke up early and were once again busy packing food packages on Wednesday morning.

The food packing effort is a weekly occurrence and is aimed at feeding residents in the Springs area, especially school children who often find themselves without food over the school holidays.

Merle Mackenzie says, “There are many, many needy people here in Springs.

“We are trying our best to do our part in making a difference, especially for the children, the unemployed and the homeless.”

She goes on to say that, “We also have a soup kitchen every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday which is managed by my husband, Colin Mackenzie and some people from the Centre also chip in and help.”

It is clear that the spirit of philanthropy is still alive and well at the Springs Senior Centre.
