The ‘South African Cake Boss’, Paul Vieira, owner of the Cake Extreme in Benoni, stepped in to help a family who was celebrating the 21st birthday of the little angel from Springs.

The little angel is a boy who was born healthy but was left with severe brain damage when his skull was broken in six places after a hit-and-run accident when he was two.

The doctors thought the little angel wouldn’t reach 18 years old and it’s a miracle that he turned 21 on June 17.

The teary little angel’s mother says: “Through the grace of God, my son is still alive for his 21st birthday, which has always been my dream.

“I was going through Facebook trying to see which cakes I could get for his birthday.

“That was when I saw The Cake Extreme Facebook page. I then texted them with the description of the cakes I want for my son and the reasons why I wanted it to be special.

“A few days later, I received a call from Paul saying he would bake the cake. I asked how much it would cost and he said he’d do it for free.

“I was inside the house. I couldn’t respond and I couldn’t hold back the tears. I went outside and when I got to the gate, he asked if I could hear him. That was when I responded and thanked him.”

Speaking on behalf of Paul, Marzelle Pinto says: “What happened was that she (the little angel’s mother) texted Paul asking if he could make the cakes for her son’s 21st birthday and after she had sent the son’s photo, Paul felt the need to bake the cakes.

“He said he had to do it and he was excited. He told the mother that he would pay for the cakes as it is what he really wanted to do. He said it is one of the most priceless cakes he ever had to do as it would mean a lot for the little angel and his mom.”

Paul couldn’t go to the birthday party as he was not feeling well.
