The Springs Library mobile truck was parked behind the library in Fourth Street on Tuesday; however, there were no librarians or people to assist when one gets to the library.

The Addie went to check if there is a mobile library only to find its doors closed and by the look of things, the mobile library doesn’t cater for the disabled.

According to the Ward 75 Clr Dean Stone, the library won’t be opened anytime soon. He says the contractor who was hired to fix the library might have done more damage than good.

“The contractor was hired to replace the air conditioners in October last year, but they might have ruined the roof which caused flooding into the library during the heavy rains in January.”

Stone says the library is a mess, carpets and computers are ruined.

He says the contractor is denying to have caused the damages and he is planning to meet with them to get them to agree to fixing the roof.

“I had a meeting with the acting head of library services, the head librarian and the real estate department, where we discussed all the library issues and they promised there will be a desk outside the library to enable the community to exchange books.

“The real estate department has pledged to make a donation to the Department of the Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation for them to be able to fix the library. I hope the funds will be enough to fix everything,” says Stone.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
