Roadhouse hopes to bring relief to the less fortunate

The community turned up in their numbers with donations and by 11am the roadhouse had collected mountains of clothes and food.

The Holiday Inn Roadhouse on Saturday held their very first winter collection drive.

The restaurant collected clothes, food, toiletries, books and toys to hand over to Springs and KwaThema Child Welfare and Rus-’n-Bietjie Old Age Home.

“As a country, we’re facing tough challenges, more so the less fortunate, and we wanted to raise awareness about their plight and do our bit in helping them.

“Also as a business, we work together and support the community,” says Ferreira.

The local business says they did research in the area and discovered that pensioners were struggling to make ends meet, often having no money left over after they’ve paid their rent and bought electricity.

The community turned up in their numbers with donations and by 11am the roadhouse had collected mountains of clothes and food.

“We are accepting anything that you feel you can donate.

“The turnout has been amazing and people have been very helpful.

“If someone doesn’t have anything they can donate, they can also donate with any skills they have, for example, the welfare struggles with keeping their cars on the road, so a mechanic would be greatly appreciated,” says Ferreira.

For entertainment, the canine unit put on a display courtesy of the Springs CPF, a jumping castle for the young ones and East Rand Stereo was broadcasting from the roadhouse on the day.

The restaurant says they will continue accepting goods and distributing them as long as people donate.
