Springs karatekas compete at Kimura Shukokai International

Instructor Francois van Staden says: “We don’t perform in tournaments very often and they did exceptionally well. I’m very proud of them."

Karatekas from Shukokai Karate in Casseldale took part in the Kimura Shukokai International (KSI) national championship from May 31 to June 1 at University of the Witwatersrand and brought home a slew of medals.

They competed in two disciplines, kata and kumite.

Kata consists of a series of choreographed moves, but without the presence of an adversary.

Kumite is similar in style to kata, but involves an adversary.

“I’m very proud of them.
