Collect your wheelie bin to avoid rubbish not being collected

The metro has made an announcement on their Facebook page that as from July 1, the City will only collect refuse contained in the City-branded 240-litre wheelie bins.

According to the metro’s spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, this follows the roll-out of wheelie bins to residents across the City.

Gadebe says: “If you did not collect your bin during the roll-out, you can do so from the waste management depot in your area from Monday to Friday between 8am and 3.30pm.

“The City’s fleet of refuse trucks are fitted with an automated mechanism to pick up the bins and empty the refuse into the compactor, thus any other container cannot be used.”

The metro asks that residents should remember to take along a copy of their ID and municipal account when collecting the bin.

“The bin is issued for free, while the refuse collection is charged at R162.24 per month per bin.

“Residents who need more than one bin may apply at an additional charge.

“Please remember to put your bin out at 7am on collection days,” says Gadebe
