Bakerton hosts third annual Hanuman Chalisa Recitals

The hymn is repeated 40 times and the qualities of Hanuman are strength, courage, wisdom, celibacy and devotion to Lord Rama.

 

Practitioners of the Hindu faith gathered in Bakerton on Sunday to recite the Hanuman Chalisa.

The hymn is dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

The word Chalisa means ‘forty’ in Hindi as the Hanuman Chalisa consists of 40 verses.

The hymn is repeated 40 times and the qualities of Hanuman are strength, courage, wisdom, celibacy and devotion to Lord Rama.

This recital is the most popular hymn in the Hindu faith and is recited by millions of devotees around the world.

It is believed that poet saint Tulsida, who lived in the 16th century CE, is the author of the hymn and that those who chant the Hanuman Recital will invoke divine interventions from Hanuman.

Recitals started at 6am and ended at 7.45pm.
