Build the best newspaper creation and win

Get your papers ready, gather your team and enter the Addie's recycling competition.

Have you started planning your entry for the Springs Advertiser and Veritas College recycling competition?

If not, now is the time to enter. Find out which country you will be representing and start creating your entry.

The paper will be hosting a recycling competition which is open to all schools in Springs on July 13.

The judging of the competition will take place at Veritas on the same day as the school’s cancer walk and international food fair.

How it works

• The competition is open to all Springs schools.

• The competition will be judged in two sections – a primary/junior school section and a high/secondary school section.

• The competition is open to learners in Grade Four to 11 and schools may enter one team per grade.

• Each team will include four learners who will work together to complete the assigned project.

• Junior school (Grade Four to Seven) teams will have to do a short research project on a particular building or landmark in the assigned country and build a model of the building out of copies of the Springs Advertiser.

• The choice of building or landmark is up to the team, as long as no two teams from the same school choose the same building.

• Details of the project will be published later.

• Senior school (Grade Eight to 11) teams will have to design and model fashion in the style of the assigned country to be worn by a model or models on July 13.

• All clothes and accessories must be made out of old copies of the paper and at least one member of the team will model the outfit created.

• Colour may be applied to building models and outfits if desired.

• Each school will be assigned a different country by the Springs Advertiser and the school must then decide what part of the country each grade will highlight.

Entering

• To enter, complete the entry form and submit it, together with your entry fee, to Christina Radebe at the Springs Advertiser offices.

• Please tell her that it is for the environmental challenge.

• Entries close on June 28.

• There is an entry fee of R80 per team (R20 per learner) and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Vita Nova and iThemba Pregnancy Crisis Centre.

• Details of how and where to display your work will be given closer to the time.

• The winning team in each section will be awarded the Springs Advertiser Environmental Challenge Cup.

Note: While we will try to accommodate your favoured country, if more than one school asks for the same country we will assign countries on a first come, first served basis.
