Uncollected rubbish cause for frustration in Springs
Some residents claim they have gone for up to three weeks without their rubbish being removed.

According to the waste department’s WhatsApp group, Solid Waste: “Selcourt, Selection Park, KwaThema exit two, three, five and Interland were scheduled to be serviced on March 18.”
The group also stated that Bakerton, Welgedacht, Payneville, Pollak Park, New Town, Oranje Hoff, Springs exit, White City, Selcourt, Selection Park, Daggafontein, Struisbult, exit two, three and five and Barcelona will receive service on March 29.”
The delays were caused by vehicle breakdowns and scarcity of diesel, which is available only in Brakpan, the group said.
The group stated that Petersfield, Geduld, Msimini, Grootvlei Enclosure, Slovo Park will be serviced on March 28.
The group apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Ward councillor Dean Stone stated: “As far as the solid waste department is concerned, we as councillors have been told one thing and the community has not been informed as to exactly what the reasons are for the backlog.
“There are prominent reasons from the department ranging from saying there’s not enough vehicles in Springs and the reason why is that they are in workshops and not being released because they have not being paid for by the metro.
“The other reason we heard as well was that there was a diesel shortage and the diesel was in short supply throughout the metro because the diesel account was not paid by the metro.
“I don’t know how is it that it was not paid because the finance department should take care of such things.”
A request for comment was sent to the metro, they failed to respond in time for print.
