Springs attends Epilepsy Purple Day

March 26 was Epilepsy Purple Day, which is celebrated around the world.
The event was founded by Cassidy Meghan (9) from Nova Scotia in Canada.
An event was held in Tembisa on Saturday and was attended by residents from the Geduld branch of Epilepsy South Africa.
A 1.4km walk started at Tshad and ended in Ebuhleni Park where three speakers addressed those in attendance.
There was also a first-aid demonstration done by Gua-Med and music and treats for the children.
Assault Riderz, a biker group from Alex, led the event and cyclists from Cycle for Life (Soweto) marshalled the walk, while Scouts from various troops were on hand to push the wheelchairs where needed.
Event organiser Tania van Heerden says she runs a toiletry drive every year for homes:
• Tshimollo Home, for children with very serious epilepsy, in Kaalfontein,
• Bathabaleng Home for children in Ivory Park,
• REEA Epilepsy Care Centre in Craighall, which caters for adults living with epilepsy, and
• Epilepsy South Africa Springs for adults living with epilepsy.
